CONNECTING DOCTORS WITH PATIENTS ACROSS SOUTHERN AFRICA

Airborne Lifeline Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization working in a public-private partnership with the governments of Botswana and Malawi, providing a flying medical service. The foundation leases aircraft to transport health care professionals and medical supplies to remote villages on a regular weekly or biweekly schedule. Airborne works with the Botswana Ministry of Health to address major health care issues including the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, hepatitis A, and typhoid fever. Airborne’s service offers important benefits to health care professionals and patients: Many of the health care professionals are citizens of the region and are readily trusted by patients living in remote areas. Among the health care professionals visiting the regional clinics each week are specialist doctors, physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, senior midwives, and medical trainers.
